[List] Cricket World Cup 2023 will be the Last for these Players

Explore a diverse range of cricket discussions, including player retirements, match predictions, and career trajectories.

I believe this will be the last World Cup for many more. In four years’ time, ODIs would have dried up even more. Don’t be surprised if many more players retire from ODIs post this World Cup, as T20s will be the focus moving forward. The following is the list of cricketers team-wise who will probably bid farewell to the world of ODI cricket as far as World Cup tournaments are concerned.

Players who will have their last Cricket World Cup

Australia:

  • David Warner: ODI retirement U-turn before WC. Australian opener David Warner is also one of those players, who are in the last phase of their. Likely to retire due to potential declining form or preference to focus on other formats.
  • Mitchell Starc: Possible retirement due to workload management or form concerns.
  • Josh Hazlewood: Josh Hazlewood is also one of the players who might shockingly follow Quinton de Kock into retirement after the 2023 ODI World Cup.
  • Aaron Finch: “Realising that I won’t be playing on until the next T20 World Cup in 2024, now is the right moment to step down and give the team time to plan and build towards that event,” Finch told reporters at the MCG.
  • Pat Cummins: May be he will focus more on Test Cricket.
  • Steve Smith
  • Glenn Maxwell
  • Alex Carey

Pakistan:

  • Iftikhar Ahmed Chachu: I think Iftikhar will play a match-winning innings for Pakistan in this World Cup, and CWC23 would drastically change his career trajectory. Eventually, he would have a career like Misbah and play as long as he is fit to do so.
  • Babar Azam: He will have the worst tournament, and after the World Cup, he may face more humiliation from his countrymen. He could end up sidelined forever, much like your hero in history, Umar Akmal, and others.
  • Imam Ul Haq: For his slow run-rate.
  • Hassan Ali: After this World Cup, he won’t be able to represent Pakistan in any major tournament.
  • Fakhar Zaman

India:

  • Rohit Sharma
  • Virat Kohli: It may not be Kohli’s final world cup. He has better fitness by standards. Virat will probably play one more, Rohit maybe. Likely to continue playing due to high fitness levels.
  • Ravichandran Ashwin
  • Mohammed Shami
  • Ravindra Jadeja

New Zealand:

  • Kane Williamson
  • Tim Southee
  • Trent Boult
  • Daryl Mitchell

  • Mushfiqur Rahim
  • Mahmudullah Riyad
  • Mustafizur Rahman (nicknamed Fizz)

Sri Lanka:

  • Dimuth Karunaratne
  • Dasun Shanaka

South Africa:

  • David Miller: The day David Miller announces his retirement from white-ball cricket, it’s going to be a difficult and sad moment for us as fans. David Miller has always saved us from embarrassment.
  • Quinton de Kock: Quinton de Kock was a part of the match against Australia at Johannesburg’s Wanderers Stadium on September 17. The Proteas won the match by 122 runs while he scored 27 off 39 balls. The wicketkeeper-batter will retire from ODIs after the 2023 World Cup in India, set to kick off on October 5.
  • Aiden Markram: Aiden Markram is becoming Hashim Amla. He’s finding strangest ways to get out. Amla towards retirement was getting out in strangest ways.

England:

  • Joe Root
  • Ben Stokes: Stokes had already quit ODIs last year, saying playing in all three formats was unsustainable.
  • Jos Buttler: Before England’s first warm-up clash against hosts India, Buttler has opened up about his retirement plans. While expressing his desire to continue representing England, the wicketkeeper-batter hinted that he may consider moving on from One Day Internationals (ODIs) after the conclusion of the ODI World Cup 2023.
  • Jonny Bairstow: Stokes cited an “unsustainable” schedule as a contributing factor to his decision to retire from the 50-over format aged 31.
  • Moeen Ali: England all-rounder Moeen Ali has revealed that he is pondering about his retirement from ODI cricket after the 2023 World Cup

Netherlands:

  • Ben Cooper: In January 2022, Cooper announced his retirement from international cricket.  He came back just for the world cup.

What About Fakhar Zaman and Rizwan?

They are just 31 and 32 years of age brother they can play 6 to 7 year’s more. But it is most likely, this could be the last World Cup for Rizwan, Nawaz, Iftikhar, and Fakhar, because their replacements are ready. Abdullah Shaifque, Hurraira, Mohammad Haris, Rohail Nazeer, Haseebullah, Saim Ayub are ready.
